Message from the head of school

lindsayI would like to formally welcome you to Udon Thani International School (UDIS) which aims to bring quality, international education to the people of Udon Thani.

UDIS uses a blend of the National Curriculum of England (NCE) with inquiry based learning. This provides a mix of the structure, depth and standards of individual subjects from the NCE, with the freedom of the inquiry approach which can help students forge understandings across all areas of their learning. With this curriculum we aim to develop students who can be world citizens with high level thinking skills that can easily continue their studies throughout the world.

UDIS offers both Early Years and Primary classes for students from 2 to 12 years of age in purpose-built educational facilities. Our Early Years and Lower Primary building was completed in 2014 to house classes at these levels. We are completing our Upper Primary building and sports facility for the 2017/2018 academic year.

Currently, UDIS offers nine classes for its students. These are:

  1. Preschool (2-3 year olds)
  2. K1 (3-4 year olds)
  3. K2 (4-5 year olds)
  4. Year 1 (5-6 year olds)
  5. Year 2 (6-7 year olds)
  6. Year 3 (7-8 year olds)
  7. Year 4 (8-9 year olds)
  8. Year 5 (9-10 year olds)
  9. Year 6/7 (10-12 year olds)

UDIS maintains small classes at each level with a maximum of 20 students in each class. Early Years classes are taught by a foreign teacher, an assistant teacher and have the assistance of a nanny as needed. Primary classes are taught by a foreign teacher and an assistant teacher. All foreign teachers are qualified and experienced international teachers from a range of countries. We believe a mix of nationalities is important to teach our international curriculum and to meet the expected needs of our diverse student base.

We have begun the process of accreditation for the Council of International Schools (CIS) and we are a full CIS Member School. UDIS is also a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Our desire is for the school to embrace IB and its inquiry curriculum and to mix this with the NCE to maximise the educational benefits for our students.

Once again, welcome to UDIS!

Thanks,

Dr. Lindsay Stuart
UDIS Head of School
