Counselling and wellbeing at UDIS

UDIS is actively enhancing our counselling and support services for students, equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive in today’s modern world.

A recent article in the Bangkok Post sheds light on the escalating mental health risks among Thai adolescents, stemming from behavioral, emotional, and social challenges (Source). These issues mirror international concerns, with UK children expressing low happiness levels regarding their mental health, and secondary students reporting higher anxiety levels compared to their younger counterparts (Source). Academic pressures, particularly within the demanding International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, contribute significantly to these challenges, adding stress for students (Source).

While Udon Thani International School (UDIS) is renowned for fostering a positive school environment (96% parent agreement, as per our 2022/2023 parent survey), our expansion into the Diploma Programme prompts us to augment our service offerings. This expansion aligns with our school vision of enabling students to thrive within our school.

To address these evolving needs, UDIS is establishing a dedicated Student Services Department slated to launch in the academic year 2024/2025. Mr. Justin Hart, a qualified teacher and seasoned school counselor, will lead this department. His expertise will significantly enhance the support services for students in our Senior School, helping them navigate the academic demands of our programs while fostering personal development beyond the classroom. Our aim is to provide the support our students need to best succeed at UDIS.
